Historic Masonry Stabilisation Works

This project involved essential structural stabilisation works to areas of Necarne Castle, located in Irvinestown, to address masonry instability and prevent further deterioration of the historic fabric. The castle is a significant heritage asset, and the completed interventions were focused on safeguarding its structural integrity while maintaining sensitivity to its historic character.

The works included masonry stabilisation and propping to four unstable internal. The basement was infilled with free-draining granular material to enable the safe propping of two central loadbearing walls. Additional works included detailed propping solutions to facilitate the insertion of new lintels to existing window and door openings, as well as lime pointing to areas with severe mortar loss to restore stability and prevent future collapse. Corroding steel elements, which were causing cracking and distortion in masonry walls, were carefully removed.
